If the Father of Waters were to stand, he would be more than 15 feet tall. The statue and base together weigh over 14,000 pounds. Some people believe that rubbing his toe is good luck.
It’ll make sense when you get there.
Parking is available on-street. Many of the meters are free on weekends but be sure to check. No one should get a ticket on our wedding day! If you can’t find a spot or don’t want to walk too far, look for the parking ramp conveniently located on 4th Avenue between 5th and 6th street. There is a flat rate of $4.00 for weekend parking in this ramp. During the week the rate skyrockets to $9.00 for the first 20 minutes, $13.00 for 21-40 minutes and an additional $2.00 for every 20 minutes thereafter. Ridiculous, isn’t it?! Good thing you won’t encounter those rates when you park there for our wedding.
If you prefer mass transit, the Hiawatha Light Rail Line stops at 352 South 5th street – right in the backyard of City Hall!! Or, there’s always the good old city bus.
